Introduction
These simulations provide AHIMT personnel functional exercise opportunities to practice and/or demonstrate position specific competencies and teamwork skills high performing AHIMTs need to possess.
- They are provided to simplify development of the customized simulation presented on the last day of the O-305 course. The host agency can choose one of these simulations and then add in the information necessary that would customize it to reflect the environment and resources particular to an incident management team’s response area
- They can be used in place of the exercise provided on the second day of the Two-Day Skills Sustainment exercise
- The can be used as a standalone exercise the AHIMTs can use to remain deployable and meet the readiness indicated in the 3-Tiered System
All simulation packages include the following six components:
- Scenario briefing and background for Agency Administrator’s (AA’s) briefing and Initial Response Incident Commanders (IRIC) Briefing.
- Completed ICS-201, Incident Briefing, document for use during the Initial Response Incident Commanders (IRIC) Briefing.
- Delegation of Authority (DoA) or Letter of Direction (LOD) that enables the AHIMT to either assume managing the incident or assist in managing the incident.
- Master Exercise Scenario Listing (MESL) that summarizes the injects into a HSEEP approved format
- Field Updates from the field to the Operations Section Chief that include scripted injects, resource movements and conditions, actions, and needs (CAN) reports covering one full operational period.
- Individual Injects – Individual injects to give (radio, in person, or telephone) incident management team members participating in the exercise.
Model Exercise File Packages
The six files in an exercise package are compressed (zipped) into one zip file to simplify the downloading process. To download an exercise package, click the name of the simulation. A pop-up may appear that will ask you to select where you want the zipped file to be saved on your device. Select the location on your device where you want the one zip file saved and click okay. Once the download has completed and it has been saved to your device, use an un-zip program to unzip the files and save the individual files to the location of your choice. If you are using Windows 10, the ability to unzip files is already included as a part of operating system, just double click the zipped file and then saved the individual files. Once they have been unzipped they are ready for use. We recommend that you make a copy of each file before customizing it – just in case something goes wrong or you make an unrecoverable mistake.
File Names used in each package.
The names of the files follow a naming convention that is standardized throughout the simulations. In some instances the names needed to be shortened or abbreviated to avoid issues with overly long file names. The number and letter at the end of each file name (2023F) indicates it was finalized in the year 2023. If you have saved any previous versions of the simulations they will have a 2021 date. The file names are:
- Delegation of Authority (DoA). The file name is [incident type] DoA 2023F.docx
- Field Updates. The file name is [incident type] Field Updates 2023F.docx
- Completed ICS-201, Incident Briefing. The file name is [incident type] ICS 201 2023F.docx
- Individual Injects. The file name is [incident type] Ind Injects 2023F.docx
- Master Exercise Scenario Listing (MESL). The file name is [incident type] MSEL 2023F.docx
- Scenario briefing and background. The file name is: [incident type] Scenario Brief 2023F.docx
